Privacy Policy

Your blueprints and takeoffs are yours. We store them securely, use them to do the job you asked for, and never sell them.

01Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how J316 Empowered ("we", "us") collects, uses and protects information when you use Overlay (the "Service"). We built the Service for contractors, and we treat your plans and project data the way we would want our own treated: stored securely, used to do the job you asked for, and never sold.

02Information we collect

Account information. Your name, email address, company name, password (stored only as a one-way hash) and the preferences you save, such as default framing, siding and roofing settings.

Plans and project data. The blueprint PDFs you upload, the project name and address you enter, the settings you choose for each takeoff, the dimensions and materials the Service extracts, the resulting material lists, the edits and corrections you make, and your conversations with the takeoff assistant.

Payment information. When you purchase a takeoff or subscription, Stripe collects and processes your card details. We receive your subscription status, plan, and payment history, but we never see or store your full card number.

Usage information. Standard technical data such as browser type, pages visited, timestamps, approximate location derived from IP address, and error logs, used to keep the Service working and secure.

03How we use it

We use your information to:

  • generate, store and display your takeoffs and let you edit, export and revisit them;
  • answer your questions about a takeoff through the takeoff assistant;
  • authenticate you, run your account, and enforce plan limits;
  • process payments and send receipts and account notices;
  • monitor, secure and troubleshoot the Service;
  • improve extraction accuracy using anonymized, aggregated patterns from takeoffs and the corrections users make — for example, how often a particular type of beam callout is misread. We do not use your identifiable plans, addresses or client names for this without your consent.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data to advertise to you or anyone else.

04How automated processing works

When you run a takeoff, the pages of your plan set and your settings are sent to our machine-learning provider, Anthropic, through its API, which returns the extracted dimensions and materials. Your conversations with the takeoff assistant are handled the same way. Under our API agreement, Anthropic does not use the content we send to train its models. Plan content is transmitted encrypted and is not stored by the Proprietary Adaptive Software provider beyond what is needed to process the request and meet its own legal obligations.

The calculation from extracted dimensions to material quantities happens in our own software and does not involve a third party.

05Who we share it with

We share information only with service providers that help us run the Service, each bound to protect it and use it only on our instructions:

  • Supabase — database, authentication and encrypted file storage for your blueprints (United States).
  • Vercel — application hosting and delivery.
  • Anthropic — machine-learning extraction and assistant responses, as described above.
  • Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the rights and safety of users or the public, or as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the business, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information.

If you invite team members to your account, they can see the projects and takeoffs in that account.

06How long we keep it

Your projects, takeoffs and blueprints stay in your account for as long as it is open, so you can revisit and re-export them. You can delete individual projects at any time from the dashboard, which removes the takeoff data and the stored PDF. When you close your account we delete your personal information and content within 30 days, except for payment records we are required to keep for tax and accounting purposes and anonymized data that no longer identifies you.

07How we protect it

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Blueprints are stored in a private bucket that only the owning account can access, enforced at the database level with row-level security so one customer can never read another customer's projects. Passwords are hashed, never stored in plain text. Access to production systems is limited to the people who operate the Service.

No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach affecting your information we will notify you as required by law.

08Your choices and rights

You can view and update your account details and preferences in Settings, delete projects from the dashboard, export your takeoffs at any time, and cancel a subscription from your account or by contacting us.

You can ask us to provide a copy of your personal information, correct it, or delete your account and data by emailing hello@j316takeoff.com. We will respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act; we honor those requests for all users regardless of location.

We send transactional emails (receipts, login links, account notices) that you cannot opt out of while you have an account. Any product-update emails include an unsubscribe link.

09Cookies

The Service uses only the cookies needed to keep you signed in and to remember your display preferences, such as light or dark mode. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers on the Service.

10Children

The Service is for businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service evolves. We will post changes here with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, notify account holders by email before they take effect.
